Before buying a R75 unit

First, you make up your mind to buy an R75 Wehrmachtsgespann.

Very fast you will find an expert, who will offer you an unrestored motorcycle for a very cheap price. Those Wehrmacht-units are rare and to find a bargain is nearly impossible. Maybe they tell you that with a couple of bucks you can restore it up to a proper oldtimer. WRONG. It doesn’t work like this.

First mistake:  The purchase of a vehicle of dubious origin

The price was not in fact high, maybe 5.000 €. The real value of the motorcycle is about approx. 1700 €. A serious dealer would have told you, not to buy this. The vehicle looks like an R75, also drives some meters, is, however, in technically desolate state and often not restorable.

Second mistake: Beginning of restoration without professional advice

The parts do not correspond.. Thousands of Euros are invested in semi-correct or wrong restorations. Sometimes rescue-worthy original substance is replaced by replica parts of minor quality.

The difficulty of the necessary work, amount and price of the necessary spare parts are underestimated.
